OSFI Prudential Guidelines & Tokenization Roundtable (Hosting, invitation‑only)

  • Virtual Calgary, AB Canada (map)

The Canadian Bitcoin Consortium is convening an invitation-only virtual roundtable on June 30 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. MST (10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EST) to examine OSFI’s evolving prudential framework for crypto-asset exposures and its implications for tokenization and banking access. The session will bring together a select group of financial institutions, regulators, policy stakeholders, and industry leaders for a practical, forward-looking discussion on how current and proposed guidelines are shaping banks’ engagement with digital assets.

Moderated by Adam Garetson under Chatham House Rule via Microsoft Teams, the roundtable is designed to support candid dialogue on Canada’s regulatory direction and its impact on infrastructure readiness and long-term competitiveness.

The discussion will be structured around two focused sessions. The first session will address OSFI’s current prudential treatment of crypto-assets for 2026 and the recently released draft guidelines for 2027, including the distinction between Group 1 and Group 2 assets, capital treatment, hedging recognition, and the 5% Tier 1 capital limit, alongside active Canadian tokenization initiatives such as Project Samara and tokenized deposit projects. The second session will explore the practical implications for banking access by digital asset firms, onboarding considerations, risk management approaches, international regulatory alignment, and opportunities for structured collaboration among banks, OSFI, and government to support responsible innovation while maintaining financial stability.
